Young at Arts Students Perform at Junior League of Bronxville’s November Membership Meeting

POSTED: JANUARY 2012

The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) featured the Young At Arts (YAA) students in a spectacular musical performance at the JLB’s November Membership meeting. YAA students delighted JLB members with five ensemble and solo vocal and theatrical performances.

YAA - an organization devoted to empowering young people in Southern Westchester by offering arts instruction and opportunities – is one of the JLB’s latest outreach programs. Seeing that many children come to YAA hungry , JLB is working with YAA to provide healthy snacks through its new Smart Snacks program for 125 K-12 YAA students participating in the after school classes for the 2011 -12 school year.

Founding Director Sharyn Pirtle of YAA remarks “A healthy snack the kids can count on every week has increased focus and greatly improved the flow of productivity in class time for these Young At Arts students. It is amazing how something like this can do that.”

The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) has been an active and vocal women’s volunteer organization in Southern Westchester since 1948. It is dedicated to fighting hunger and improving nutrition in its service areas of Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe, and Yonkers. JLB members donate over 30,000 hours of community service annually and work with hosts of community programs and agencies. Through their charitable work, JLB members donate over $600,000 worth of volunteer salaries. As a 501(c)3 charity, its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
