The Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester, Tuckahoe Kicks Off
Its Annual Campaign

Fall is the beginning of The Community Fund’s 91st Annual Campaign. “We’re asking everyone to help this year, so we can meet the growing needs of the local agencies and community programs we support. We especially want to reach out to those families new to our community, to join your neighbors in supporting this wonderful organization,” emphasizes Fred Taylor, 2010-2011 Board President. “Our goal is to give out at least $525,000 in grants next spring. While we collaborate with programs and agencies throughout the year, this annual fundraising drive is the only time we solicit donations on their behalf. “

“The Community Fund is about caring for our neighbors and making our community a better place to live. We work with elected officials, community leaders, our schools and college officials, as well as our donors and Board members, to make sure we address the needs most vital to our Community,” explains Melinda Burge, Executive Director of the Fund. “Our member Agencies depend on the Fund, to help out when State & Local funding as well as other contributions fall short.”

Originally founded to help Lawrence Hospital manage the flu epidemic in 1919, The Community Fund has helped respond to on-going community needs and emergencies ever since. In the last 10 years alone, the Community Fund provided over $6 million to the Bronxville 10708, Eastchester and Tuckahoe communities.

“Every dollar raised here, stays here,” reminds Betsy Goodell, this year’s Campaign Co-Chair. “You can see your donations at work everywhere you turn - from new EVAC ambulances to free Flu shots at Lawrence Hospital, from the Bronxville Senior Center to Southeast Consortium’s activities for children and adults with developmental disabilities, from the Cancer Support Team to drug and alcohol abuse counseling by Maxwell Institute. You may not have needed the services of such Agencies directly, but people you know are sure to have been helped by the support they provide.”

“Last spring, The Community Fund gave $523,525 to 30 social service agencies and programs,” notes Romy Coquillette, FY 2011 Evaluation Co-Chair. “The number of agencies has grown and changed since 1919, but our mission remains the same – to support local agencies that serve the health, education and welfare needs of local residents. The needs will continue to grow and change over the years - and the Community Fund will be there to meet those needs.”

“We need everyone’s help to make that happen,” says Fred Taylor. “Remember, the Community Fund only exists because of the generosity of people like you. Please give as generously as you can, either now, or with a pledge to be fulfilled at any time before June 30, 2011. Every dollar counts in helping a family, a senior citizen, a child, a neighbor.”
